4 Basic rules to make a logo
Here the 4 steps that I follow when I start to design a logo
Go clean and associative
Always start with black over white background
Use minimum curve points to extract maxium clean lines
Try to make associative shapes
Use basic shapes like square, circle or triangle
Colors
Use standard based CMYK or Pantone color scheme
Less gradients is better, solid colors is great
Check in grayscale do you still have the contrast
2 colors combination is good choise, 1 color is perfect!
Print and web
Adapt it to Corporate elements (business cards, folder, banners, etc,.)
Check what would be the smallest size in order to keep a good visual perception
Web execution (make a test with digital formats, banners for ads, avatars, mailing, etc,.)
Typo
Use standard fonts
80% of the cases San Serif fonts are better choise than serif
Just use one typo family
Finally! Before printing your logo check it in positive and negative version. Means, with white and black background. If your logo is easy to read you made a good work, Congratulations!
